Scarf Care Guide
SILK SCARF CARE
Nanton& silk scarves are created to be worn, collected and kept. The natural beauty of silk lies in its softness, lustre and fluidity. Considered care will help preserve the colour, hand and finish of your scarf for years to come.
01. HANDLE WITH CARE
Silk is a strong natural fibre, but its surface can be delicate.
Avoid contact with jewellery, rough surfaces and sharp objects that may pull or snag the fabric. Take particular care with rings, bracelets, handbags and other accessories when tying or removing your scarf.
02. PROTECT THE SILK
Avoid direct contact with perfume, cosmetics, hairspray and other alcohol- or chemical-based products.
We recommend applying fragrance and cosmetics before putting on your scarf and allowing them to dry completely before the silk comes into contact with the skin.
Prolonged exposure to strong sunlight may also affect the intensity of printed colours.
03. CLEAN ONLY WHEN NECESSARY
Silk does not require frequent cleaning. After wearing, allow your scarf to air naturally before returning it to storage.
When cleaning becomes necessary, follow the individual care label. For silk twill and printed scarves, we recommend a professional cleaner experienced with fine silk.
Avoid machine washing, tumble drying and bleach unless specifically permitted by the garment care instructions.
04. TREAT SPILLS GENTLY
If a spill occurs, gently blot excess liquid with a clean, white absorbent cloth. Do not rub the fabric, as friction may disturb the surface or affect the printed colour.
Avoid applying water, soap or stain remover directly to the affected area.
For significant stains, have the scarf professionally cleaned as soon as possible.
05. AVOID HEAT
Allow silk to dry naturally and away from direct sunlight or sources of heat.
Never tumble dry.
If pressing is required, follow the care label and use only a low-temperature setting appropriate for silk. Whenever possible, place a clean cloth between the iron and scarf to protect the surface and finish.
06. STORE WITH CARE
Before storing, make sure your scarf is completely clean and dry.
Fold it loosely along different lines from time to time to avoid creating permanent creases. Avoid tightly compressing the scarf beneath other garments or accessories.
For longer-term storage, keep the scarf flat in its Nanton& box or within a breathable fabric cover, away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and humidity.
A NOTE ON SILK
Silk is a natural material. Subtle variations in texture, weave and surface are part of its character rather than imperfections.
With wear, your Nanton& scarf may soften and develop a more fluid hand. These subtle changes are part of the relationship between the material and its wearer—a piece designed not simply to be preserved, but to be lived with.
