Coat Care Guide
CARE
Nanton& garments are made from carefully selected materials and are designed to be worn for years. Considered care will help preserve the character, structure and finish of each piece.
01. CLEAN ONLY WHEN NECESSARY
Frequent dry-cleaning can place unnecessary stress on natural fibres. Unless a garment is visibly soiled or stained, allow it to air between wears before considering professional cleaning.
After extended wear, outerwear may be turned inside out and hung in a well-ventilated space. Always refer to the individual care label before cleaning.
When professional cleaning is required, we recommend using a cleaner experienced with luxury garments and natural fibres.
02. TREAT STAINS PROMPTLY
Stains are best addressed as soon as possible.
For a fresh spill, gently blot the affected area with clean, white absorbent cloths or paper towels. Where possible, place one on either side of the fabric to absorb excess liquid.
Do not rub, scrub or aggressively wet the area. This may disturb the surface of the fabric, affect the colour or cause the stain to spread.
For delicate fabrics—including wool, cashmere and silk—we recommend taking the garment to a trusted professional cleaner as soon as possible.
03. CARE FOR THE SURFACE
Natural fibres may develop light pilling with wear. This is a normal characteristic of wool and cashmere rather than an indication of poor quality.
Pilling can be carefully removed with a fabric comb or de-pilling device. Work gently and avoid repeatedly treating the same area.
Pay particular attention to buttons, trims, embroidery and other finishing details when wearing, cleaning and storing your garment.
04. ALLOW GARMENTS TO DRY NATURALLY
If a garment becomes wet, allow it to dry completely before storing.
Avoid radiators, hair dryers and other direct sources of heat, which can distort fibres, alter the garment's shape or affect its finish.
Outerwear should be hung on an appropriately shaped hanger and allowed to air-dry naturally in a well-ventilated space.
Never store a garment while damp.
05. STORE WITH CARE
Proper storage helps maintain the original shape and structure of a garment.
Tailored pieces and outerwear should be placed on substantial, shaped hangers that adequately support the shoulders. Avoid thin wire hangers, particularly for heavier garments.
For longer-term or seasonal storage, garments should be clean and completely dry before being put away.
We recommend breathable cotton or fabric garment covers rather than plastic. Natural cedar or lavender may also be used within the wardrobe to help protect natural fibres during extended storage.
Allow garments sufficient space to hang without being compressed.
A NOTE ON NATURAL MATERIALS
The subtle changes that occur through wear are part of the character of natural materials. Variations in texture, surface and handle should be expected and appreciated.
With considered wear and proper care, a Nanton& garment is intended to become increasingly personal with time.
